ZTT has successfully completed a full series of grid-forming operational tests for the GS12 100MW/200MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), the first large-scale grid-forming energy storage project developed for Electricité du Cambodge (EDC) under an EPC contract.

The successful completion of the comprehensive testing program—including black start, regional grid restoration, islanded operation, multi-source power plant startup and grid connection, synchronized reconnection to the main grid, and seamless transition between grid-connected and off-grid operation—marks a major milestone in the project. Throughout the tests, the BESS operated safely and reliably, with all key performance indicators meeting the expected requirements.

The tests attracted significant attention from EDC, with the utility's Deputy General Director and the head of the National Dispatch Center attending the on-site demonstration.

During the testing process, ZTT's grid-forming energy storage system demonstrated outstanding operational capabilities under complex grid conditions. The system successfully energized multiple 100MVA main transformers, restored 182.8 kilometers of 230kV transmission lines, and re-energized four 230kV substations, providing stable power support for more than 55MW of regional electricity demand.

The project also successfully enabled the startup and grid synchronization of the Kamchay Hydropower Plant, followed by the successful startup and synchronized grid connection of the CIIDG coal-fired power plant, validating the system's capability to coordinate multiple generation sources during grid restoration. These achievements fully demonstrated the advantages of grid-forming BESS in supporting black start, maintaining stable islanded operation, coordinating diverse power sources, and accelerating power system recovery following grid disturbances.

EDC highly commended the successful test results, recognizing ZTT's contribution to strengthening Cambodia's grid resilience, improving power system stability, and enabling faster restoration of electricity supply.

As Cambodia's first large-scale grid-forming energy storage project, the successful commissioning of the GS12 BESS establishes a benchmark for the deployment of advanced energy storage technologies across the country's power system and provides a proven model for future large-scale energy storage applications.

Looking ahead, ZTT will continue expanding its presence in overseas power and energy storage markets by leveraging its strengths in energy storage system integration, EPC project delivery, and global execution capabilities. The company remains committed to supporting Cambodia's long-term power infrastructure development while contributing innovative solutions to the global transition toward resilient, low-carbon power systems.
